A friend asked for recommendations for restaurants in D.C. Here are some that I have tried and enjoyed since our kids have been in DC the past 7 years. Looking forward to adding to the list as they have both settled there after GW graduation.
Foggy Bottom:
Circa 2221 I st NW (across from GW hospital)
North Italia 2112 Pennsylvania Ave NW suite 102. (Love it. Katie’s roommate is a server, truffle bread is amazing)
Tonic Restaurant @ Quigley’s Pharmacy, 2036 G St., NW, 20036 (Not fine dining but right on campus. Good tater tots)
Founding Farmers DC 1924 Pennsylvania Ave. NW (Popular with GW families. We find it too crowded and rushed but the food was good)
West End: (just north of GW campus a few blocks)
Chef Geoff’s West End 2201 M St NW (a favorite of ours. Casual. Near the Marriott, Westin and Ritz where we have stayed)
Rasika West End 1190 New Hampshire Ave NW (we didn’t end up going there yet but the kids rave about it)
Blue Duck Tavern West End. 1201 24th St NW, Washington, DC 20037 (Michelin Star. Love fancy breakfast there.)
Georgetown:
Flavio Restaurant & Bar 1073 31st St NW, Washington, DC 20007
Farmers Fishers Bakers 3000 K street NW (On the water in Georgetown)
Other parts of DC:
Medium Rare 515 Eighth St SE, Washington, DC 20003
Reasonably priced, all you can eat… salad, bread, steak, fries and special sauce!
Tabard Inn 1739 N St NW
Jaleo by José Andrés 480 Seventh St NW, Washington, DC 20004
Fabulous Spanish Tapas and so fun with a group
Zaytinya by José Andrés 701 9th St. NW
Mediterranean small plates
Perry’s 1811 Columbia Rd. NW (Sushi with rooftop seating option)
Kramer’s bookstore and restaurant DuPont circle Books and food!
Ambar 523 8th St. SE (Balkan – small plates, all you can eat, So good.)
Sauf Haus 1216 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20036 (Stopped for a beer and an awesome soft pretzel)
Old Ebbitt Grill 675 15th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005 (DC’s oldest saloon. Iconic place worth going to but as a local, Jack doesn’t care for it anymore)
The Occidental 1475 Pennsylvania Ave. 20004
Conservatory above Gravitas in Ivy City 1401 Okie St NE (food and drinks were great. It was Katie’s 21st birthday and if this was the only event it would have been better. It was a long dinner and we needed to get to the party. It is on the roof and it was raining. We were under cover but I think that added to the slow service (waiter had to go outside and downstairs to get food courses.)
Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse
City Center. 950 I St. NW Suite 501
Unconventional Diner
1207 9th St. NW
